Sydenham My Brag

RIP Ishta: September 20, 2000 to January 22, 2016

Life has been quite a whirl wind for me.

I was born with 16 other brother and sisters in Harrowsmith and when I turned 6 weeks old I was brought to my new home where I have lived ever since. Martha, my mom, says she picked me for my independence and loved my spirit.

I have never been without canine company even though I was Mom’s only dog for seven years. I helped in the kennel with the dogs who were misbehaving and running off, it was a hard job but I loved it!

I also did agility, only did it because mom liked it soooooooo much, but was not my favourite thing to do. I also did rally when I got older and liked it a little better, but really what is the point of doing anything if you are not getting treats right away, I mean come on!

Now mom keeps reminding me that I am retired and that I do not have to do anything I do not want to and I get treats just for going for a walk. This retirement stuff is great. I can even pretend sometimes that I do not hear her and you should see her flailing her arms around and tapping the side of her leg to get me to come…..it never gets old!

I am talking to you from the rainbow bridge as I was becoming increasingly restless at night and was starting to feel icky all the time. I had a great party the night before I left and saw all the people I had not seen for quite a while. The next day all the pain disappeared and I am with a lot of dogs I haven’t seen for a while and no agility, thank god!!

My name is Sterling and I am an Australian Shepherd and currently 10 years old.

I came to live with my mom Martha in May of 2007. I was a very bad boy when I arrived. I would growl at my mom and yell and piss and poop whenever she put me in a crate. Now in my defense I grew up on a farm and never had been put in one of those things and to be left there by myself was intolerable. No matter what I would do she would not let me out until I was quiet for 5 minutes, she says! I must admit I was so tired by the end of the day, at night time I had no energy to complain!

My mom has taught me lots of stuff like agility and rally and we go lots of places with lots of new smells and get to play with my ball and run around in a field with all this stuff, just her and me, which I really like! We are kept busy with all the kennel dogs coming and going but I like being active.

Two years ago was my best year as I was third in my category in the Eastern Regionals and got my AAC Lifetime Achievement Award which made my mom VERY proud.

As I am getting older and now have become the doggie leader of the ever changing pack, I seem to have become a little quieter. I do miss Ishta as she was always around. Have big boots to fill and it seems to take a lot of my energy.

Last November Mom and I achieved a big award from AAC. The Versatility Lifetime Achievement Award. It is a coveted award as there are currently only 60 dogs in Canada who have earned this award since its’ inception in 2000. Mom is very proud!

My name is Rebound and I am an Australian Shepherd, yes an Australian Shepherd NOT a border collie!

I am currently 9 years old and moved in with my mom and my brother and sister in September 2008. I was what they call a “rescue” as my first mom and dad realized they made a mistake buying me from the pet store. Even though they loved me, I was kept in a crate for too long each day and they found a new home for me.

My first name was Buddy but Martha changed it to Rebound, as she got me on the rebound and her favourite sport was Basketball.

I LOVE people and my mom has to constantly tell me to calm down, but I just cannot help myself!!!

The past couple of years I have really come into my own regarding agility. Mom is learning new techniques and they make such sense to me and we are really a team now. So much so that I won first place last two years at the AAC Ontario east regionals in my division! I have recently earned my Lifetime Achievement Title from the AAC, so no longer need to compete in the regionals. Like Sterling I also achieved my Versatility Lifetime Achievement Award but I did it in August beating out my big brother! Got lots of hugs and cookies that day!

On to the future and Mom she is looking forward to the Nationals in Maxville next year. Will be fun!

Life is good!

RIP: November 2013 – May 2, 2016

My name is Pip and I was the biggest boy in the house but now I am talking to you from across the rainbow bridge. A lot of people used to ask my mom what breed I was and she says I was a true all Canadian from a long line of all Canadians!

My mom thinks when I passed to the rainbow bridge that I was about 2.5 years old but does it really matter? The first time I met my now mom was in March 2015 and I was swished off to a foster home hoping to adopt me but I was a bad boy! I became overprotective and started biting people and it was quite powerful! Next thing I knew I was at Martha’s and wow, she was strict with me. I was not allowed to pick up anything and keep it. Everything was hers and she does not share much! She tells people that she is a foster failure, as she initially was not going to keep me but fell in love with my fun loving spirit and now I live here. Took me 4 tries but I have finally found a forever home!

I am learning a ton of new things, agility and rally, and love seeing the dogs in the kennel every day. My mom is very sad that I passed away very quickly, but I had to eat garbage to survive before I came to live with my mom and the vet felt that some bad things got stuck in my stomach and were there for a long time. But when they entered the intestine surgery was required. Unfortunately a complication arose and I ended up dying.

Hi, my name is Gilit which, in Hebrew, means eternal joy!

I am a female Australian Shepherd and my Mom wanted a high energy dominant female and that is what she got! I think she wonders what she was thinking at times! My mom picked me up in Portneuf, Qc from the kennel Clos du Silence when I was 8 weeks old and I come from a long line of champion herders and am afraid of nothing! I am a high energy girl and have a strong will. I am very sorry that my brother Pip died as he was the only one who wanted to play with me at the time but since Flash has joined the pack he chases me everywhere and I just LOVE that game!

My name is Flash and I am the newest and youngest member of the pack. I have only been here one month but am loving having a lot of dogs around and playing with my big sister! This is my 3rd home so I was an angel when I arrived as I was not sure if I was staying or not but it seems like this is the home for me so I am starting to be more comfortable and seem to be getting into more trouble. Mom still hugs me though and kisses my head so she must love me despite getting mad at me every so often.
